Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda’s Wild Heartbeat

Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area, spans an impressive 3,893 km² and includes Bugungu and Karuma Wildlife Reserves. Nestled in the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley in Masindi District, the park lies approximately 300 km northwest of Kampala, offering a raw and majestic safari experience.

At the heart of the park is the dramatic Murchison Falls (also known as Kabalega Falls), where the mighty River Nile explodes through a narrow 7-meter (23-foot) gorge, plunging down in thunderous torrents before calming into a broad, serene river that flows into Lake Albert. This spectacle is framed by the scenic Bunyoro escarpment and the Acholi plains, creating breathtaking views that captivate every traveller.

On the eastern boundary, close to the Masindi-Gulu highway, the Karuma Falls also offer another stunning natural wonder, with foaming rapids and wildlife sightings.
