Route
Itinerary
You'll arrive in Nairobi where you will be picked up by our representative and depending on your arrival time on this day we may book you at a hotel in Nairobi or drive to Amboseli National Park. After breakfast, you'll depart from Nairobi for Amboseli National Park. Most famous for its stunning views of Africa's highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, the park offers photographers the rare opportunity to snap photos of elephants, lions, zebras, and giraffes against the startling backdrop of Africa's most famous mountain.
You'll have lunch at your lodge upon arrival before heading out into the park for an afternoon game drive.
You'll wake before dawn for an unforgettable sunrise game drive within the park. Kilimanjaro never looks quite as beautiful as she does first thing in the morning. You'll also get to see predators such as leopards, lions, and cheetahs out on the prowl in the cooler morning air.
After your morning game drive and a late breakfast, you'll relax at the lodge for a few hours before heading out into the park again in the afternoon. With the animals largely inactive during the warm midday hours, you can get some rest before catching them out and about in the cooling afternoon air.
With a picnic lunch in hand, you'll depart from Amboseli after an early breakfast for the drive to Sweetwater Conservancy, sometimes known as Sweetwaters.
Your drive not only takes you back through bustling Nairobi and then through the beautiful farm country of Kiyuku but brings you to the very foothills of Mt. Kenya —Kenya's highest mountain.
After arriving at Ol Pajeta, you'll pay a visit to the park's famous chimpanzee sanctuary to meet its adopted residents and then head out into the park proper for an evening game drive.
You'll depart for Lake Nakuru after breakfast.
Lake Nakuru is home to millions of brightly colored pink flamingoes and is an ornithologist's dream, with a further 400+ species of bird calling the park home. It's not all birds, however, with the park also home to elephants, black and white rhinos, hippos, lions, leopards, and more.
You'll get to see all of the above and more on your afternoon game drive in the park.
After an early morning breakfast, you will check out and leave Lake Nakuru for Masai Mara. You will pass through Narok Town, a famous Maasai town as you make your way to Masai Mara. You will arrive in time to check in at Sarova Game Camp and have lunch. After lunch, you will take off a game drive through the park in search of lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, and other members of the Big Five, plus other animals. Later in the evening, you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay. The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November.
There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, and over 400 bird species recorded on the reserve.
Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant. It is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino).
Full-day game drives depart at 7:00 am, with your 4×4 fully equipped to cross the Mara plains in search of game. At 1800 meters above sea level it can get cold before the sun rises fully, so we provide blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm.
By midday, it can become very hot indeed and sun-block lotion and hats are advised. Lunch is served under the shade of an acacia tree or overlooking the snorting hippos that wallow in the Mara River.
As the afternoon draws to a close and the temperature cools, the shadows lengthen and the bush changes once more. Evening sightings of rhinos are not uncommon on the way back to camp. Even a bad day is a good day in the Mara since undoubtedly you will have encountered vistas, flora, and fauna new to you. Each can be revisited in the memory as you sink into your welcoming hot tub back at your tent.
You'll have lunch in the heart of the Masai Mara. You'll return for a soak in your hot tub.
If you start first thing in the morning, you are likely to find the Mara at its most active. With the sun rising at around 6:00 am, this means an early start to your day. The reward is likely to be the sight of predators who avoid the heat: additional attractions include subtle light on the landscape and the joyous sounds of awakening birds, you'll return for a hearty breakfast at the camp after 9:00 am.
At around 4:30 pm, you'll explore the conservancy on your own, as the cooling temperature brings out the predators. Lion-kills are often fought over by packs of hyenas, jackals, and other scavengers. Yet these life and death scenes are juxtaposed with the impossible beauties of the African sunset, as nature’s ever-changing palette streaks the sky with orange, red, and gold.
Anticipating sunset, your guide will have stopped to prepare sundowners, with a wide choice of drinks. Clasp your favorite, ease back in your chair, and watch the light shift to dark, heat gives way to the chill.
At the break of dawn, you will embark on your concluding game drive in the Mara followed by a relaxed breakfast and onward departure for Nairobi.
You'll arrive in Nairobi by early afternoon (typically by 2.30 pm). You'll be dropped off at your hotel, or free onward transfer to the airport for your final leg of the tour in Rwanda and Uganda.
You'll transfer to JKIA to connect a flight from Nairobi to Kigali. After arriving in Kigali, you can visit, the Kigali Genocide Memorial commemorates the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The remains of over 250,000 people are interred there. There is a visitor center for students and those wishing to understand the events leading up to the events of 1994. Kandt House Museum of Natural History is a museum in Kigali, Rwanda. It is under the responsibility of the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda. The Nyamata Genocide Memorial is based around a former church 30km south of Kigali in Rwanda, which commemorates the Rwandan genocide in 1994. The remains of 50,000 people are buried here.
A guide from Mission Africa Safaris will pick you up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel and brief you about your tour. Before your journey to Uganda, you will have an opportunity to tour the city of Kigali and important sites like the genocide war memorial centers. After touring the city, you will embark on a 4-hour drive to Bwindi through the Katuna (Uganda – Rwanda border). After Katuna, you will head to Ruhija in Bwindi. This journey will allow you to see the beautiful countryside and landscapes in Rwanda and Uganda. Rwanda has eye-catching rolling hills and plantations while Uganda has dense green forests around the Bwindi area. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the Gorilla Mist Camp.
You will wake up very early to have breakfast. Our guide will pick you up and take you to the park offices where you will be briefed and given information regarding tracking gorillas in Bwindi. You will be assigned a gorilla group and allowed to hire a porter for 10 USD. Your lodge should arrange for you to pack lunch and drink water. Gorilla trekking takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the location of your assigned gorilla family that particular day. Once you spot the gorillas, take as many photos as you can and try to follow instructions from the wardens/guides. After completing the trek, you'll go back to your hotel.
This is the climax of the trip and depending on your next destination departure time you will discuss with your driver-guide the best time to start at the airport. After breakfast, you will check out for the airport, which ends our safari services. The departure dates for all our safaris and tours are flexible according to your own needs.
